A brief ceremony, held on Thursday (10) at Dambulla-based 53 Infantry Division Headquarters under the 1 Corps welcomed its new incoming General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Shanaka Rathnayake, amidst military formalities and religious blessings.
In accordance with military formalities, 6 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops presented a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour to the newly-appointed GOC upon his arrival before he was invited to his new office.
Later on, he marked the assumption of duties amid religious blessings of the Maha Sangha by placing his signature for an official document.
As a gesture of memory, the new GOC was invited to plant a sapling in the camp compound and address All Ranks as a formality.
Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers, and several other Senior Officers were present on the occasion.
