New East Commander Commences His Office

Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment assumed duties as the new Commander of the Security Forces - East (SF-E), amidst religious blessings during a brief ceremony at the Security Forces Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) premises on Monday (12 June).

The newly-appointed, Commander, SF-E was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers of SFHQ-E on arrival and accorded a colourful Guard Turnout at the entrance and a ceremonial Guard of Honour afterwards at the parade square.

Moments later, he placed his signature in an official document amid chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by the Maha Sangha, signifying the acceptance of the new appointment. Adding memories to the day, he was invited to plant a sapling in the compound and was invited to pose for a few group photographs as memories of the occasion.

Finally, the new East Commander addressed the troops and participated in the staff briefing towards the end of the day’s proceedings. The General Officer Commanding of the 22 Infantry Division, Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers in the SFHQ - E, Commanding Officers and Other Ranks were present at the occasion.
