Major General Nihal Samarawickrama, the newly-appointed Deputy Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) assumed office on Monday (21) morning during a brief ceremony, held at the SLAVF Headquarters in Kosgama.
A Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour saluted the new Deputy Commandant in accordance with military formalities after he was welcomed on arrival at the premises.
As a formality, the new SLAVF Deputy Commandant symbolically placed his signature in an official document amidst religious rites and rituals and chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ of the Maha Sangha at the auspicious time. Afterwards, the new Deputy Commandant addressed a gathering of SLAVF officers and Other Ranks who had gathered at the premises.
Signifying his inauguration of the office as the Deputy Commandant, Major General Nihal Samarawickrama planted a sapling in the camp premises.
