New COVID-19 Ward Erected by Troops Opened in Mullaittivu

A new ward for COVID-19 patients, constructed by Army troops at Mullaittivu District Hospital premises by responding to the request made by the Director, Mullaittivu District Hospital was inaugurated on Saturday (29) by Major General Upali Rajapaksha, Commander Security Forces - Mullaittivu, together with Mr K. Wimalanathan, District Secretary for Mullaittivu.

General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the brainchild behind enhancing the bed capacities and ICCs to be in line with the sudden increase of infected ones around the country, instructed Major General Upali Rajapaksha, Commander Security Forces - Mullaittivu to promptly take action to construct this separate Ward for COVID-19 patients as one more phase of ongoing treatment centres.

This new ward consists of 25 beds with all medical facilities was constructed by the troops of 68 Division under Command to the Security Force HQ - Mullaittivu with technical assistance, provided by troops of 16 Corps of Engineer Services (CES).

By considering the national requirement of surge of infectees in the country, a few philanthropists financially contributed to the project.

Under direction and closer supervision of the Major General Upali Rajapaksha, Commander Security Forces Mullaittivu, Major General Keerthi Bandara, General Officer Commanding, 68 Division, Brigadier D.R.N Hettiarachchi, 681 Brigade Commander and Commanding Officer, 16 CES completed the construction in less than 10 days to meet with any contingency.
