New Commander Pays His Respect to 'Dalada Maligawa' &;amp; Calls on Mahanayake Theros


Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, new Commander of the Army on Saturday morning (3) paid his homage to the most sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy before calling on Most Venerable Mahanayaka Theros of both Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters at their respective monasteries.

Lieutenant General Ratnayake, together with Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch, two sons and the daughter paid his respect to the Temple of the Tooth offering trays of jasmine flowers. Mr Pradeep Nilanga Bandara, Diyawadana Nilame welcomed the new Commander on arrival at the main chamber and conducted the visitors to the inner chamber for religious observances.

After a brief interaction with members of the Sangha present there and the Diyawadana Nilame, the Commander and his family members called on the Mahanayake Thero of Malwatte Chapter, as is the practice after appointment of a new Commander of the Army.

Most Ven Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Mahanayaka Thero invoked blessings on the new appointment and wished the new Commander have strength to protect the country in the future and continue the Army’s good work.

Afterwards, the new Commander paid obeisance to the Mahanayake Thero of Asgiriya Chapter and offered Pirikara to him. During the interaction, Most Ven Udugama Sri Buddharakkithabhidhana Nayaka Thero expressed his happiness on the appointment of Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake since he was very well known to them when he was the Area Commander for Kandy some time back. Ven Mahanayaka urged the Commander to carry on with ongoing development roles of the Army for the benefit of all Sri Lankans.

Later on, the Commander called on Ven Dr Niyangoda Vijithasiri Anunayaka Thero of the Malwatte Chapter who is also the Secretary to the Malwatte Chapter.
