New Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Assumes Office

Major General Suraj Bangsajayah assumed duties today (1) as the 42nd Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) amidst military formalities, arranged at the SLAVF Headquarters premises at Kosgama, Seethawaka.

The day’s proceedings in connection with the assumption of duties as the Commandant began after review of the Guard Turnout, accorded in his honour by the troops of the Gemunu Watch. The Senior Officer was warmly welcomed by Major General K P Nugegoda, Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on his arrival at the premises.

Subsequently, the Senior Officer, amidst invocation of blessings of major faiths, placed his signature for an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of his new appointment. Later, the Senior Officer planted a sapling in the premises to signify his inauguration of the office.

The Senior Officer was afterwards invited to refreshments. Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Principal Staff Officer and all Branch heads of the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, along with serving members and Other Ranks of the Headquarters shared sweetmeats on the hospitality table.
