New Chief of Defence Staff Calls on Commander

Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke, the newly-appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) paid his first formal courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters Thursday (9) evening and called on Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army at the Commander’s office.

A formal Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by troops of the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) at the Ministry of Defence grounds on arrival greeted the visiting CDS who reviewed the parade and received the honours. Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke was welcomed by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Adjutant General as he entered the parade grounds.  

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva after extending a warm welcome to the new CDS at the main entrance to the Commander’s Secretariat, introduced his Principal Staff Officers to the new CDS.

During the brief meeting with the Commander of the Army, they exchanged views on general matters of importance and roles and tasks of the office of the CDS.

Extending best wishes on his new appointment, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva awarded a memento to the new CDS visiting him. The gesture was reciprocated. Before his exit from the Commander’s office, Air Chief Marshal Gunatilleke placed his signature in the VIP visitors’ book as a symbol of memory.
