New Army Chief of Staff Appointed

Major General W.A.S.S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu of the Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment was appointed as the new Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, effective from today (July 15). He succeeds Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu who has just retired from the Army.

Prior to this appointment, Major General W.A.S.S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army. Further, he had also served as the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Headquarters at Kosgama.

At present, the Senior Officer is performing duties in addition as the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment. He is the eldest son of General Hamilton Wanasinghe VSV (Retd) who also served as the Commander of the Army during 16 Aug 1988 - 15 Nov 1991.
