New 24 Div Commander Makes Field Visits

The newly-appointed General Officer Commander (GOC) of the 24 Division, Major General Wajira Welagedera made his first formal field visits to the Headquarters 242 Infantry Brigade, 23 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment unit and 8 Sri Lanka National Guard camp, located under the 242 Brigade HQ on Friday (07) and Saturday (08) as part of his familiarization visits.

The General Officer Commander of 24 Division first arrived at the 242 Brigade Headquarters and attended the formalities there and the visiting GOC was received by the Commander 242 Brigade, Colonel Anuradha Solangaarachchi and the Commanding Officer 8 SLNG.

Accordingly, an all-rank tea, planting of a sapling and troop address got underway during those visits after respective commanders briefed him on operational security arrangements at sensitive points, dining and cooking facilities for soldiers and welfare facilities for Other Ranks, etc. The GOC 24 Division addressed the troops of under command at the 242 Brigade HQ premises where he emphasized continuation of professional training and good work while maintaining the highest standards of discipline at all levels.

Furthermore, on Saturday (8), the GOC 24 Division visited 8 Sri Lanka National Guard camp and attended to the formalities there too. The officers and soldiers met him and had an opportunity to discuss matters about administration aspects, operational needs, welfare measures and requirements of the troops during this field visit. Also, the Commander 242 Brigade participated in the visits.
