Major General W.P Kariyawasam assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 23 Infantry Division on 01 May 2024, amidst religious observances and military formalities.
Upon arrival, troops saluted the incoming GOC in a Guard Turnout at the entrance before he was accorded a Guard of Honour by the 9 Sri Lanka Artillery troops.
Afterwards, he symbolically signed an official document marking the commencement of his responsibilities in his new office amidst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by Members of Maha Sangha.
Later on, he planted a mango sapling in the premises, and posed for a few group photographs with the troops. Moreover, he interacted with the troops during an All-Ranks tea.
After the formalities, he received a comprehensive briefing about the Area of Responsibility (AOR) during the staff briefing. Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks also participated in the occasion.
