Brigadier A.G.D.N Jayasundara of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) assumed duties as the 22nd General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 23 Division in Punani on Wednesday (20).
The commencement of the formalities, related to the inauguration of office began with reviewing of the Guard Turnout, accorded to the newly-appointed GOC on arrival at the venue. The new GOC afterwards took the salute of the 11 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops in the parade that followed.
After a while, Brigadier Jayasundara amidst ‘Seth Pirith’ of monks placed his signature in an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the office at the auspicious minute.
He also left memories by planting a sapling in the premises to signify his inauguration of the office and addressed the troops before joining for tea with all ranks.
