Navalar School Students on Historic Trip to Palaly Airport

In order to boost the goodwill and reconciliation, the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), in response to a request, submitted by Mr K. Tharmajeelan, Principal, Jaffna / Kopay Navalar School, facilitated the visit of a group of students to the Sri Lanka Air Force - managed Palaly airport on Thursday (2).

Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander, SF-J upon receipt of the request for a visit to the airport coordinated with Air Force authorities and swiftly facilitated the visit of those children for the first time after absence of more than three decades.

52 students and 5 teachers on the educational tour were overjoyed to see the airport, its operations and learn other technicalities since it was a new experience for them. Those students had the chance of raising questions about various aspects with airmen on duty as well as posing for a group photo in front of an aircraft.

Members of the Sri Lanka Air Force staff welcomed all of them and were treated to snacks and refreshments during their stay before their exit.

In the year 2011, 5 Engineer Service Regiment troops at that time completed the construction of a two-storied building for the same school with the financial support, provided by the then Uva Provincial Council.
