Two Sri Lankan expatriates-based in the US, Mrs Priyantha Gamage and Mr Don Lakshman Jayamaha at the request of Lieutenant Colonel A.B.S Athukorala, Commanding Officer, 23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops of the 642 Brigade under the 64 Division HQ came forward to support the students with school accessories for their higher studies while the “Sathyasai” organization volunteered to provide support for a drinking water project for civilians in Manawalanpaddamurippu area.
330 school students at Karipaddamurippu Government Tamil Mixed School, Sammalankulam Government Tamil Mixed School, Sinnathambi School & Eeshwaran School on Friday (17) through sponsorships received those accessories where Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu graced the occasion as the chief guest at the invitation of the Commander, 642 Brigade.
The Commanding Officer of 23 VIR with his troops under the supervision of Colonel G.D.S.M Alwis, Commander, 642 Brigade organized those community projects. The drinking water project benefits more than 50 civilians who suffer due to shortage of drinking water.
Senior Officers of the SFHQ-Mullaittivu, 64 Division’s General Officer Commanding and 642 Brigade, principals and teachers were present at the occasion.
