Muay Thai Finals Give Win to SLSR Players

Finals of the Inter Regiment Muay Thai Championship - 2019 tournament, competed by 11 Regimental teams, including 3 women’s teams got underway at Panagoda Indoor Stadium on Thursday (30).

This year’s championship (male) was clinched by the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) players pushing Vijayabhahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) team to be the runner-up.

Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), representing the acting Chief of Defence Staff & Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva graced the final event as the Chief Guest.

The day’s Chief Guest was welcomed by Major General Manoj Mudannayake, Director General Infantry & Chairman, Army Muay Thai Committee.

The singing of the Army song and remembrance of War Heroes led the Chairman Army Muay Thai Committee to deliver the welcome speech.

Similarly, Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) team carried away the women’s championship while Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) women were adjudged the runner-up.

Lance Corporal D Dissanayake of Commando Regiment (CR) was selected as the Best player in the tournament while Lance Corporal S Pahingamuwa was selected as the best loser in the tournament.

In the women’s category Lance Corporal S Herath of Sri Lanka Women’s Corps was titled as the Best player and Lance Corporal D Visidagama of SLAWC became the Best loser.

The Chief Guest after congratulating all achievers gave away trophies to the winners and watched a few demonstrations in the tournament.
