Mothers, resident in the 55 Division area in Veththalaikerny recently underwent an awareness programme on child nutrition, following initiatives taken by the 55 Division Headquarters under the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J).
Main sponsor of the programme, Fontera Brand Lanka Company maintained that it was the most successful workshop, ever held in Jaffna with the participation of hundreds of mothers.
The programme was simultaneously conducted for two days (August 2 - 3) at six selected schools in the 55 Division area. Each school was gifted with Rs 20,000/= for its development at the end of each programme.
During the inaugural occasion, held at Pulopallai Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School (RCTM), Mr. Jayathilake Kariyawasam, Project Officer (Nutrition) of Fontera Brand Lanka Company, delivered an introductory lecture.
Dr. Kantheepan of Jaffna Teaching Hospital elaborated on physical and mental growth of child with nutritious food and how care should be provided to children.
Deputy Education Secretary of Kilinochchi Mr. Kantharaja, Dr. Gandhi of Jaffna Teaching Hospital, Principal of Pulopallai RCTMS Mr. Jeevarathnam and senior officers of the 55 Division attended separate inaugural sessions.
