More Women Peacekeepers, Now Trained at IPSOTSL

Combat Convoy Company (CCC) Pre-deployment Training Course Level B-I (Female) for United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) concluded at the Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) on Tuesday (27) upon completion of 14 days.

39 students participated in the course, inclusive of 04 Officers and 35 Other Ranks representing Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps and Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps.

The recommendations of the Assessment and Advisory Visit team of the UN who recently visited the IPSOTSL to evaluate training modules suggested an increase of women peacekeepers in the training modules.

The curriculum of this course for women trainees consists of practical and theoretical aspects of the provision of force protection to humanitarian assistance, brief awareness about the relevant host country, stabilization and protection of civilians, the rebuilding of the security sector, the promotion and protection of human rights and specially the duties and responsibilities undertaken according to the mandate in Mali.

The closing remarks were delivered by Brigadier C.A Rajapaksha RSP, Commandant, IPSOTSL before distributing certificates to the participants.
