More LTTE Bunkers Fall in Army Hands

VAVUNIYA & MANNAR: ARMED CLASHES occurred between 7.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m. on Wednesday (09) in the general areas of PALAMODDAI, enabling the troops capture one more LTTE bunker with a stock of ammunition and hand grenades.

During those clashes, eight LTTE cadres were killed and ten more injured when terrorists tried to infiltrate troops controlled areas. Seven soldiers received wounds in the fight. Six hundred rounds of T-56 ammunition, three hand grenades and some ration packets were recovered from the inside of those bunkers.

Similar clashes in the same area later on the day killed two LTTE terrorists and injured five more. Two solders also paid the supreme sacrifice in those confrontations.

Six more terrorists have reportedly fallen dead when the troops launched attacks on several Tiger positions in the general areas of ADAMPADANKULAM, NAVVI and NADANKANDAL areas Wednesday (9). One soldier who sustained injury in the confrontations was admitted to hospital for treatment.

One more soldier paid with his life and two more received injuries when the terrorists fired mortars towards the troops in ADAMPADDANKULAM and NADANKANDAL areas around 11.40 a.m. and 10.15 a.m. twice on Wednesday (9).

In the meantime, explosion of terrorist Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the general areas of PALAMODDAI, NADANKANDAL and PANANKAMAM area, the same day (9) injured six soldiers.

During a search conducted in AVARANTHALAWA area, troops recovered one dead body Wednesday (9) around 4.30 a.m..

In the MANNAR sector, troops captured five more LTTE bunkers making their way into LTTE controlled MATHIRMADU area between 6.00 a.m. - 6.45 a.m. Wednesday (9). Troops confirmed that hey killed six terrorists before the capture. Troops recovered three anti personnel mines from the inside of one of those bunkers.

Meanwhile, two soldiers got injured due to explosion of terrorist anti personnel mines on Wednesday (9) around 7.20 a.m. in the general area of THIRUKETHISHWARAM.
