More than 500 civilians reached a mobile health clinic, organized by the Security Force HQ-East (SF-E) at Welikanda Cultural Centre to receive medical consultations, medicines and had the chance of undergoing all free medical tests on Tuesday (September 13).
Organized on the directions and guidance of the Commander Security Forces-East (SF-E), Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, the General Officer Commanding of the 23 Infantry Division closely supervised the project. 9 Sri Lanka Artillery troops made arrangements to this effect for the best interests of poor civilians in the area to be in line with given directions.
The medical clinic distributed medicines to the value of Rs. 700,000/= among civilians at Welikanda Cultural Center. The sponsoring assistance was provided by the 'Inter-faith Coalition for Peace'. The medical clinic performed vision testing, hearing and speech testing, BMI testing, blood pressure testing, random blood sugar testing, awareness programmes and a medical exhibition during the arrangement.
Rev Ebenezer Joseph, Bishop of Methodist Church, Sri Lanka, Former Secretary General, National Christian Council and Mr. Hemakumara Gunasekara, Treasurer, 'Inter-faith Coalition for Peace', Mrs. Thilani Vithanage, Head of Women’s Wing. 'Interfaith Coalition for Peace' were the resource personnel who assisted the conduct of this programme.
Colonel K.S.P Pothupitiya USP psc IG, Commander, 233 Infantry Brigade coordinated the programme and 31 medical professionals contributed to this project by way of providing medical consultations.
Commander, Security Forces-East (SF-E), General Officer Commanding of the 23 Infantry Division, Brigade Commanders of 231 and 233 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officer of 9 Sri Lanka Artillery and Staff Officers and Other Ranks took part in the community-oriented project.
