Monks Confer Appreciative Title on Eastern Commander

Sri Lanka Amarapura Ariyawansha Saddhamma Sabhawa of Amarapura Nikaya, appreciating dedicated services to foster Buddhism, conferred the honorary title, ‘Sugathasasana Janajayasadana Samagrasri’ upon Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Commander, Security Forces - East (SF-E) during a religious ceremony at Sri Mahindaramaya temple in Polonnaruwa on Esala full moon Poya day (27).

Registrar of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Ariyawansha Saddhamma Sabhawa and Polonnaruwa Sashanarakshaka Balamandalaya, Ven Nuwara Dharmapala Nayake Thero, Incumbent, Kaduruwela Jayanthi Viharaya awarded the scroll that contains the honorary title to Major General Pananwala amid a large gathering of distinguished guests and devotees who were present to attend a series of full moon day programmes that coincided with the commencement of the rain retreat (Vas) of the monks.

The title recognizes the eastern Commander’s active involvement to uplift spirits and elevate their spiritual and physical advancement among Buddhists, resident in the province. It also speaks of his commitment and dedication to the motherland and the eastern region in particular after he was appointed to the office as Commander, SF-E.

Chief Incumbents at several temples, invited monks, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division Brigadier Chula Abeynayeke, Brigade Commander, 233 Brigade, Colonel Anil Samarasiri, Residential Project Manager, Mahaweli Zone B, Mr Thushara Danthanarayana, and government officials were among the large gathering that witnessed the handover of the honorary title.
