Monetary Donations Received for Monk's Funeral Used for a Worthy Cause

An exceptional gesture of the most respected and widely known late monk, Ven. Dr Harispattuwe Ariyawanshalankara Nayaka Thero which advised his laymen before his demise, to use monetary contributions, received from the public for his funeral expenses to the worthy cause of building a new house for the family of a fallen War Hero, saw its realization today (14) at Theldeniya, Kandy.

Engineer troops and soldiers of 3 and 8 Gajaba Regiments and Sri Lanka Rifle Corps serving Kandy-based 11 Division Headquarters, commanded by Brigadier Nishshanka Ranawana, General Officer Commanding, tirelessly completed the construction of the new house, dedicated to the family of late War Hero, Sergeant Y.G Thillakaratne of 3 Gajaba Regiment with funds, provided by the Colombo Vipassana Meditation Centre to the value of Rs 1.2 million.

Monday’s formal house-warming ceremony, graced by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest, saw the keys to the new house deliver to the widow, Mrs E.G Manjula Malkanthi, a mother of three children during a simple ceremony, organized at the venue.

Ven. Dr Niyangoda Vijithasiri Anunayaka Thero of the Malwatte Chapter and Ven. Millewe Vijitha Thero of the Colombo Vipassana Meditation Centre, presided the proceedings and conducted religious observances in connection with the house-warming.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake as the auspicious minute struck unveiled a plaque and handed over the set of keys to the fallen War Hero’s widow and her family members after cutting a ribbon.

Soon after inaugural formalities, the Commander presented them with gift parcels and exchanged a couple of views. He also did not forget to into the well-being of those children and their education.

Mr Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Governor for Central Province, several Provincial Councillors, 111 Brigade Commander, Centre Commandant, Gajaba Regiment Headquarters and a large gathering of relatives of the recipient, were associated with the event.
