Mobile Exposition of Omniscient Relics for Restored ‘Deegawapiya’ Reaches AHQ

The mobile procession that carries omniscient relics and the ‘Chudamanikya’ (crystal pinnacle) for exposition to the public before being placed in the completely-renovated and restored ‘Deegawapiya’ pagoda in the East reached the Army Headquarters at Sri Jayawardenepura this afternoon (19).

A large gathering of devotees, comprised of General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Senior Officers, Directors, Officers and Other Ranks serving in the Army HQ were there to pay homage to omniscient relics and the ‘Chudamanikya’ at the ground floor of the main building. Afterwards, the mobile exposition began the journey to cover religious places in the Kalutara district.

The restoration and renovation of the ancient ‘Deegawapiya’ Pagoda has been carried out to-date by troops of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Policemen and Civil Security Department personnel following directions given by General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil at the Ministry of Defence who has undertaken the responsibility for restoration of the historic pagoda in the year 2020.
