Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force assumed office on Tuesday (21) as the 13th Colonel of the Regiment of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) during a formal military ceremony at the MIR Regimental Centre at Dambulla.
His formal acceptance of the new office was symbolized by placing his signature for a formal document after religious observances. The Centre Commandant, Brigadier Kumara Wanasinghe and Regimental Council Members, several Other Senior Officers along with Commanding Officers of the MIR formations were also associated with the inauguration of the new office.
Upon his arrival at the Regimental Centre, he was greeted to a Guard Turn out and paid floral tributes to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the MIR monument before he was saluted in a formal Guard of Honour. Afterwards, he was invited to plant a sapling and address the Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment. Refreshments with All Ranks ended the day's arrangement.
