Following instructions, given by the Commander of the Army, troops serving under the Security Force Headquarters - West launched a special Dengue prevention project covering Gampaha, Kurunegala, Puttalam, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kalutara and Matara Districts on Saturday (8) in order to stem possibilities for any outbreak of the epidemic.

Major General Kithsiri Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West accordingly instructed Divisions, Brigades and Units in respective Districts to launch the simultaneous community-oriented project as health authorities reported a surge in Dengue-affected patients in those Districts with the onset of rains.

This programme was also joined by about 105 Medical Officers of Health, Public Health Inspectors, state officials and minor employees in addition to over 900 Army personnel drawn from all formations.

General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers actively contributed to the success of the day’s project.
