Mannar based 54 Division Headquarters under the guidance of the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) organized several mammoth Sinhala and Hindu New Year festivals for all civilians, resident in the whole of Mannar District, following directions, given by Brigadier M.A.M Dias, General Officer Commanding, 54 Division.
All those New Year festivals attracting the participation of civilians took place in the 54 Division Headquarters premises (April 20), Madu Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya grounds (April 21), Adampan Maha Vidyalaya grounds (April 22) and Pesalai Maha Vidyalaya grounds (April 22).
Religious leaders, 54 Division General Officer Commanding, District Secretary for Mannar, Divisional Secretaries for Manthai (west), Tanachchan, Musali, Madu, Businessmen from Mannar and suburbs and a large number of civilians enjoyed the arrangements.
Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), Mr Sisira Wijesinghe, Media Advisor Sri Lanka Army, Ceylon Biscuits Company Limited and People’s Bank sponsored supply of special gifts for distribution among the winners in New Year festival events and among civilians in the area.
Brigadier M.A.M Dias, Mr Sarath Ravindra, District Secretary for Mannar and a few other guests joined together to give away those gifts to the achievers in the main festival at 54 Division Headquarters.
