Malaysia's Defence Force Chief &;amp; Bangladesh Military Academy Commandant Add Colour to PoP at Diyatalawa

Malaysia’s Chief of Defence Force, General (Dr) Zulkifeli Bin Mohd Zin, graced the 85th Passing out Parade (PoP) of the Diyatalawa Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) as the Chief Guest on Sunday (30).

Similarly, Major General Muhammad Jahangir Kabir Talukder, Commandant, Bangladesh Military Academy currently in Sri Lanka was also present at the PoP ceremony as a distinguished guest at the invitation of the Army, together with his spouse and two other senior Army officers.

A total of 135 Cadet Officers, including lady officers from Intakes 79, 79 B, 13, 54 (V), 11 (V), 67, 68, 70 during their Passing Out Parade (PoP) Sunday (30) morning, received the symbolic Sword of Honour of their Commissioning from the day's Chief Guest, General (Dr) Zulkifeli Bin Mohd Zin and Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army.

The day's military ceremony commenced after General (Dr) Zulkifeli Bin Mohd Zin, Chief Guest was honoured in a Guard Turnout at the SLMA main entrance, in keeping with military ceremonials before he was warmly received by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, together with the SLMA Commandant, Brigadier R.W.W.A.D.B Rajaguru.

The next moment was solemn as the Chief Guest was ushered to the SLMA cenotaph to pay floral tributes to the eternal memory of fallen War Heroes, accompanied by the Commander of the Army.

The climax of the day's event afterwards began with the parade of the new Cadet Officers and the ceremonial award of commissioning swords to the Cadet Officers by the Chief Guest before a salute was accorded to the Chief Guest from the new graduates in the colourful parade.

Cadet Officer S.A.D.N.D. Dissanayake received laurels from the Chief Guest for the Best Overall Performance for achieving the highest aggregate marks for all academic and practical disciplines during training.

The Chief Guest later on held his customary address and offered his greetings and best wishes to the graduates who were passing out in the ceremony

A few minutes later, the Chief Guest at the invitation of Lieutenant General Ratnayake and SLMA Commandant, planted a tree sapling in the premises before the Chief of Defence Force Malaysia sat together for a group photo.

On completion of the main segment of the ceremony, parents of those newly commissioned officers, in the presence of the SLMA Commandant, adorned the shoulders of their beloved new officers with the insignia of the President's Commission in a typical pipping ceremony in conformity with military traditions.

Late in the evening, all newly commissioned officers sat together for a fellowship dinner before they take leave from one another. The visiting Commandant of the Bangladesh Military Academy attended the fellowship dinner as the Chief Guest.

A large distinguished gathering of invitees, parents, next of kin, military officers, state officials and well-wishers, witnessed the PoP ceremony.

On Saturday (29) the visiting Chief of Defence Force, Malaysia had a cordial meeting with the SLMA Commandant and later on attended the final presentation of the Cadet Officers at the SLMA auditorium before he was hosted to dinner by the SLMA Commandant.

Similarly, Major General Muhammad Jahangir Kabir Talukder, Commandant, Bangladesh Military Academy on Sunday (30) after witnessing the PoP paid courtesy calls on Major General Prasanna de Silva, Commander, Army Training Command and Brigadier R.W.W.A.D.B Rajaguru, SLMA Commandant before he joined the commissioning dinner.
