Major General Vikum Liyanage assumed duties as Commander of the Security Forces - Central on Friday (8), amid religious blessings and military ceremonials at the Headquarters in Diyathalawa.
The newly-appointed Commander of the Security Forces-Central was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and honoured in a Guard Turnout by troops of 10 Gajaba Regiment no sooner than he arrived at the gate.
Afterwards, he was invited to plant a sapling as a gesture of memory. Later on, Major General Vikum Liyanage placed his signature in an official document to signify the acceptance of duties, amidst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’. A few Senior Officers were also present at the venue.
An All Rank tea and a formal address to the Officers culminated the day’s proceedings. GOCs of the 11 Division 12 Division, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers under command to the SFHQ-Central, Officers and Other Ranks were present during the occasion.
Prior to his present appointment, he held the office of the Commander Security Forces - West.
