Major General Udaya Kumara of Sri Lanka Engineers assumed duties as the 31st General Officer Commanding of Kopay-based 51 Division Headquarters of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna in Kopay on Tuesday (7).
The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers on his arrival and honoured in a Guard Turnout and a subsequent parade, presented by 10 Sri Lanka Artillery troops.
Afterwards, the new GOC was invited to the office where he symbolized the acceptance of the new office by signing an official document to mark the assumption of his duties, amidst 'Seth Pirith' chanting of the Maha Sanga. Subsequently, Major General Udaya Kumara was invited to plant a Mango sapling in the HQ premises as a symbol of memory.
Later on, the new GOC addressed all the Officers and Other Ranks serving the 51 Division and briefly outlined his plan of action in the days to come.
Prior to his present appointment Major General Udaya Kumara was the Director General Personnel Administration in the Army Headquarters.
Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers of the 51 Infantry Division, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were also present during the day's event.
