He was warmly welcomed by Major General Shane Gunawardhane, Deputy Commandant of SLAVF on arrival at the entrance. After review of the Guard Turnout accorded by troops of Gajaba Regiment, a Guard of Honour saluted him at the parade ground.

Subsequently, the Senior Officer, amidst 'Seth Pirith' and blessings of Buddhist religious rituals, placed his signature in an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of his new appointment at the auspicious time. Later on, the Senior Officer planted a sapling in the compound to signify the inauguration of the new office.

The Commandant at his inaugural troops address extended his gratitude to all ranks for warm reception and further underscored that he was looking forward to serving the Volunteer Force while elevating its standards. He also remembered with honour the services of the past Commandants, fallen War Heroes and those wounded in action while appreciating their contribution along with serving members.

Afterwards, the new Commandant, SLAVF's Deputy Commandant, SLAVF Principal Staff Officer and all Branch Heads, along with serving members and Other Ranks of the Headquarters joined an All Rank tea and posed for a photograph with senior officers of the SLAVF as a symbol of memory.
