Major General Channa Weerasuriya assumed duties as the 21st Commander, Security Forces - East on Monday (25) amidst traditional military formalities and religious blessings at the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) premises, Welikanda.
The day’s proceedings commenced with the incoming Commander being accorded a Guard Turnout on his arrival at the premises. He was warmly received by Brigadier General Staff SFHQ-E Brigadier Upali Gunasekera along with Brigadier Admin & Quartering SFHQ-E Brigadier Shirantha Dissanayaka and invited to review the Guard of Honour, accorded by 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops in his honour.
The newly-appointed Commander Security Forces - East Major General Channa Weerasuriya symbolically accepted his new appointment, placing his signature for an official document at the auspicious minute amidst chanting of 'Seth Pirith' by members of the Maha Sangha. Later on, the Commander planted a sapling in the Headquarter premises to add memories to his inauguration of the new office.

Culminating the day's proceedings, he shared his thoughts with the General Officers Commanding of the 22, 23 and 24 Divisions and the Commander FMA - East at his office.
