Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, New Jaffna Commander Assumes Office amid Religious & Military Formalities

Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, the newly-appointed Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna assumed office on Sunday (12) during a formal but simple military ceremony where multi-religious observances and blessings were administered inside the Commander's office at the Security Force HQ-Jaffna compound.

Upon his arrival, he was requested to review the Guard Turnout at the entrance before he was invited to take the salute of the Guard of Honour parade, presented by Sri Lanka Engineers troops at the SFHQ-J. From the special dais, Major General Chandana Wijayasundara then received the salute after his customary review of the parade.

Buddhist monks, clergy of Hindu, Catholic and Islamic faiths afterwards invoked blessings on the new office. While 'Seth Pirith' chanting was on, the new Jaffna Commander symbolically signed an official document to signify the acceptance of the new office as a gathering of Senior Officers and Other Ranks looked on. The new Jaffna Commander afterwards attended the commemoration of fallen War Heroes of the Armed Forces who served under the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna. A floral tribute was offered to those heroes at the Palaly War Heroes' Monument.

An All Rank tea arrangement a few minutes later at the Headquarters enabled the new Commander to exchange a few thoughts with attendees. Major General Chandana Wijayasundara prior to this appointment, served as the Chief Field Engineer of the Army.

His predecessor, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa has now been appointed the Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force HQ at Kosgama.
