Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, New Wanni Commander Takes on the Mantle

Major General Champaka Ranasinghe of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) on Monday (4) during a simple formal ceremony took on the mantle of the Security Force HQ-Wanni as its 23rd Commander.

As the first segment of the day's formality, the newly-appointed Commander, Security Forces-Wanni was accorded a Guard Turnout at the entrance to the premises of the Headquarters Security Force (Wanni). Then, he paid tribute to fallen War Heroes by laying a floral wreath to the monument at the SFHQ premises. Later on, the ceremony was coloured after he was invited to review the Guard of Honour, presented by 9 GR troops of SFHQ-Wanni.

Thereafter, the Commander, Major General Champaka Ranasinghe amid religious observances assumed office and left his signature for a formal document as the auspicious minute struck. Subsequently, he was invited to plant a mango sapling as a symbol of memory. A subsequent group photograph session with senior officers prompted him to t address the troops before he was invited to take part in all rank tea organized at the Other Ranks’ Mess at the SFHQ -Wanni.

General Officer Commanding of Divisions, Commander FMA (N/C), Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers of SFHQ-Wanni, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present to give their best wishes to the newly-appointed Commander Security Forces- Wanni.

Prior to this appointment, he served as the General Officer Commanding, 58 Division. He succeeded Major General Hemantha Bandara who just retired from the Army.
