Major General WasanthaAbrew assumed duties as the 22 General Officer Commanding of the 56 Division, amid religious blessings at the Headquarters in Vavuniya on Wednesday (23).
The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding of the 56 Division was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and honoured in a Guard Turnout, presented by the troops of the 21 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment as he entered the premises. Afterwards, he was invited to plant a sapling as a gesture of memory. Later on, Major General WasanthaAbrew placed his signature in the first official document to mark his assumption of duties, amidst chanting of 'Seth Pirith' by members of the Maha Sangha in the presence of senior officers.
