Long-Felt Need for Drinking Water Fulfilled by ‘Jinasena Foundation’

Fulfilling a long-felt vital requirement of the trainees at the Arasapurakulam Battalion Training School of the 66 Division in Kilinochchi, the reputed water technicians, Jinasena Foundation of the Jinasena Pvt Ltd, responding to a request of Major General Duminda Keppetiwalana, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division, equipped the School with three 5000 ltr plastic water tanks, water purifying unit, water pumping machine, laying pipes, extra accessories and technical expertise free of charge.

The installation of the water purification project, which cost the donor Rs 515,000/= was brought to completion by 7 technicians of the same company at no cost to the School and enabled the School and villagers in the area to enjoy purified drinking water, thanks to Army initiatives in this connection.

On Tuesday (24) the project was commissioned in the presence of a gathering of Army Officers, including Major General Duminda Keppetiwalana, Mr Tissa Jinasena, Chairman, Jinasena Foundation and several others. The project received the blessings of Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi.

Back in July, the donors during a visit to the area saw the plight of drinking water in the school as well as water used by residents living in nearby village areas since this area is constantly affected with long-drawn droughts and scarcity of water.

Arasapurakulam Battalion Training School, founded in May 2011 for training of Officers and Other Ranks in post-war developments, Military Intelligence, leadership, management of mine detection dogs, Yoga, Battalion training and other workshops has so far trained a large number of Army personnel with the motive of promoting their proficiency, mental peace after war experiences and professionalism in different fields.

Situated in the remote Arasapurakulam village under the Pallikuda Gramaseva Division of the Pooneryn Divisional Secretariat of the Kilinochchi District, this School has the capacity to train more than 500 Army personnel at one given time, but the lack of drinking water hampers its smooth conduct from time to time, due to intermittent droughts and lack of sufficient rains.
