Leisure Park & Renovated Road, Symbols of Reconciliation Opened to the Jaffna Civilians

The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage currently in Jaffna to meet the troops during his first visit to the Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) as the Army Chief was invited to inaugurate the 'Harmony Theme Park', a conceptual leisure project, established around the famous T-junction, quite close to the SFHQ-J complex on the guidelines given by Major General Chandana Wijayasundera, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna.

The 'Harmony Theme Park' facing the sea beach is spaciously equipped with sitting benches, jogging tracks, outdoor physical exercise accessories, tools for sports activities, etc, and provides a relaxing environment where both children and adults, could use those facilities alike. The park was built using the technical expertise of Army troops in close collaboration with local municipal authorities and state agencies in the peninsula.

The day's Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage at the request of the Jaffna Commander unveiled a plaque and inaugurated the new theme park, dedicated to the civilians, resident in the area with a view to further fostering gestures of goodwill and reconciliation. The Chief Guest, impressed with the project, meant to promote peace, health, relaxation, and sports, had a close look around the compound and expressed his appriciation to the Jaffna Commander.

Minutes after its inauguration, the Commander of the Army had the distinction of attending the re-opening of the Kadduwan - Palaly road which remained unattended for so many years. SFHQ-J troops along with Sri Lanka Engineers and Corps of Engineer Services troops in consultation with the Road Development Authority (RDA) personnel completely renovated the road patch between these two mini towns within a short span of time after technical guidelines were given by the Jaffna Commander himself.

The inaugural occasion assumed greater significance with the presence of the Mayor of Point Pedro Municipal Council, Divisional Sectary Point Pedro, General Officer Commanding 55 Division, officials of the Regional Road Development Authority, local authorities, Military Officers, civilians and residents in the area.
