Legendary War Hero, Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa Remembered at Anuradhapura Statue

The 29th death anniversary of late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, one of the legendry leaders in Sri Lankan military history was commemorated at his statue in the heart of Anuradhapura town on 08 August 2021 as a routine commemorative event, organized with family members of the bereaved family.

An LTTE landmine blast at Araly Point, Jaffna on 08 August 1992 claimed the lives of ten War Heroes. The day’s proceedings at the statue included religious observances, laying of floral wreaths to the monument and a military salute. The Commander Security Forces - Wanni Major General Hemantha Bandara attended as the Chief Guest for the event, organized jointly by troops of the 21 Division HQ and Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, the Regiment that groomed late war veteran.

The Colonel Commandant of Armoured Corps Major General Swarna Bothota along with the General Officer Commanding of 21 Division Major General Mohan Rathnayaka, General Officer Commanding of 59 Division Major General G D Sooriyabandara, Senior Officers of Armoured Corps and Senior Officers of Tri- Services and Other Ranks were present at the occasion.
