The Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna organized the annual ‘S. Nagarathnam Memorial Championship Trophy’ eleven ‘A’ side softball cricket match at Thyiddy Star Sports Grounds on Saturday (4) following guidelines and supervision given by Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna.
With the objective of further promoting the goodwill between young people and members of the Security Forces, the cricket match between Thyiddy Star Sports Cricket Team and Palmyra Club Cricket Team generated much enthusiasm among cricket lovers in the area who flocked the grounds to witness the finals. After a very close tussle, Thyiddy Star Sports Cricket Team emerged champions having scored 85 runs for 1 wicket in 9 overs against their rival’s 79 runs for 8 wickets in 12 overs.
The tournament, now expected to be an annual event was added background Papare music, provided by the musicians of the SFHQ-J in an attempt to make the event an entertaining one.
Mr Sriya Sri, Divisional Secretary of Thelippalai Divisional Secretariat, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, General Officers Commanding of 51 and 52 Divisions, Brigadier General Staff, Senior Officers, Officers, Mrs S. Nagarathnam, Grama Niladhari of Mylliddy and Other Ranks in addition to a large crowd of cricket fans watched the exciting match.
