Kuttigala Camp Takes to Maize Seed Production for Distribution among Growers

The 1 Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) detachment at Kuttigala with the objective of encouraging the general public for maize cultivation began its egg-seed production project in consultation with Agriculture Officers at the Embilipitiya Agrarian Services Center and Embilipitiya Agriculture Bureau on Saturday (17).

To be in line with the 'Thuru Mithuru-Nawa Ratak' concept of the Commander of the Army, the project was launched to provide high quality egg seeds to local farmers as well as for troops, engaged in cultivation of maize in the camp compound.

Lieutenant Colonel C.S Demuni, Commanding Officer of 1 Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps on the instructions of Major General Chandana Handunmulla, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps was instrumental in launching the project.

The inaugural occasion was organized by Major B.I.S.S.C Weerakoon, Officer Commanding of the 1 SLAGSC detachment at Kuttigala. The Coordinating Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Export Promotion, Small Plantation Crops Development has given his full backing to the Army appreciating the Army's encouraging gesture to Sri Lankan maize-growers through the Ministry's Sri Lanka Maize Production Project.

Office of the Deputy Director of Agriculture (Seed and Planting Materials) at Bata Atha supervises the project.
