A coordinating conference with officials of the Disaster Management Centre and respective authorities in the Kilinochchi District was held on Monday (27) at the 571 Brigade HQ Conference Hall in order to be geared to meet with any natural or man-made catastrophes in the upcoming period of Northeast Monsoon.
Mr Kokularajah Assistant Director, Disaster Management Centre, Mr Rajakopu, Deputy Director Irrigation Department, Kilinochchi, Mr Senthilkumaran Irrigation Engineer - Kilinochchi East, Mr S. Chandran, Administrative official at District Secretariat, Mr Thevarathan Deputy Commissioner of Agrarian Development and Major General Priyantha Jayawardane, Commander, 57 Division participated in the discussion.
Furthermore, the discussion focused on preparation processes, related to the upcoming Northeast monsoon season and associated responsibilities when engaging in disaster mitigation and relief operations that can be expected with developing adverse weather conditions. The meet also highlighted the importance of stimulating an effective disaster mitigation process in partnership with regional Disaster Management Centres and members of the Security Forces in the area.
