Kandakadu Farm to Grow Income Generating Pickled Cucumber

The Kandakadu Army farm with H.J.S Condiments Limited of the Hayleys Group of Companies stepped into the cultivation of pickled cucumber as a novel project in the farm under the Army’s food security cultivation of 1500 acres of abandoned state lands as per directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage.

The project was launched on Saturday (6) as instructed by Major General Shiran Abeysekara, Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock and Director General Financial Management of the Army in the presence of consultants of H.J.S Condiments Limited who have volunteered to give all possible scientific and technical assistance to the Army.

Pickled cucumber, a popular delicacy in most western countries can be used to generate much-needed foreign exchange as all climatic conditions in the dry areas of the country are conducive to get better harvests if cultivations are properly done.

The Chief Executive Officer and Director, Mr Ananda Pathirage at H.J.S Condiments Limited and officials, Director, Agriculture and Livestock, Brigadier Arosha Rajapaksha, Director Financial Management, Mr Asiri Jayabodhi, Commanding Officer, 3 (V) SLACAL and other ranks who are responsible for the cultivations at Kandakadu were present at the time of the inauguration of the project.
