Joint Troops Salvage Flood-Affected Civilians

ARMY troops and Sailors in the Navy jointly rushed into action and provided emergency boat services to over 200 trapped civilians who were affected owing to floods in the Kiran lagoon, Batticaloa.

The areas around Kiran lagoon including the main road remained under water for some time as a result of monsoon rains that prevailed in the area. Floods hindered transport services in the area and cut off links between mainland and the villages.

Army and Navy troops hurriedly jumped into action and volunteered to offer assistance to those civilians in distress and salvaged them after bringing them to safer areas. Many of the affected were taken to safer areas as the initial stage of assistance. The assistance was provide during the weekend (12-13 December)
