The service, rendered by Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa who just relinquished his office as Commander, Security Forces- Jaffna to take over as Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force was hailed and appreciated by Jaffna youth on Sunday (12), hours before he left the peninsula.
A representative group of Jaffna youth after meeting the outgoing Jaffna Commander presented him mementos and wished him good luck with his future undertakings.
During the tenure of the outgoing Jaffna Commander he initiated and launched a series of community-oriented Civil-Military Coordination projects to promote ties and goodwill between members of the Security Forces and the general public. He took initiative to completely renovate Theiddi Sports playground and the pavilion in the Thelippalai Divisional Secretariat ground at the request of the youth in those areas. He also organized and co-ordinated various sports tournaments and programmes among youth associations, youth clubs and different organizations which were also contributed to by members of the Security Forces.
