Jaffna Troops Recognize Under 19 Female Cricketer’s Skills & Erect New House for Her

An Army initiative with sponsorship, lent jointly by both Mr Vamadewa Thiagendran, the Founder and Chairman of Thiyahie Charitable Trust and Trustees at Chullipuram Kovil enabled troops of the 513 Infantry Brigade of the 51 Division under command to the Security Force HQ-Jaffna to construct a new house to Ms Selvarasa Kiristiga who brought laurels to Victoria College in Chulipuram, Jaffna by becoming a member in the Women’s National Cricket Squad (Under 19) after her recent achievements at national level.

The newly-constructed house was warmed and its keys were handed over to Ms Selvarasa Kiristiga and her family on Poya day (6 January) during a brief traditional ceremony, attended by Major General Swarna Bothota, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna as the Chief Guest, along with members of the clergy, sponsors, relatives of the recipient, Major General Wajira Welagedra, General Officer Commanding, 51 Infantry Division, Commander, 513 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Rizvi Razick, 16 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops who carried out the project and their Commanding Officer, Major K.W.K Hemantha.

Mr Vamadewa Thiagendran, the Founder and Chairman of Thiyahie Charitable Trust provided much-needed financial resources while Trustees at Chulipuram Kovil donated the land to construct the house. Technical and engineering expertise of the troops and their manpower brought the new house project to completion earlier than the expected deadline with the motive of encouraging and stimulating other budding sports fans in the peninsula.

During the brief ceremony, gifts and dry ration packs were also gifted to the beneficiary. After unveiling a plaque to that effect and cutting a ribbon, keys to the new home were symbolically delivered to the beneficiary.
