The grand finale of the 'Compering Star - 2019' competition, held within members of the Security Forces in Jaffna to select the most talented soldiers in 'Compering' was staged at the Headquarter premises of the Security Forces Jaffna on Wednesday (30) following arrangements, made by the 55 Division.
The competition was aimed at promoting hidden talents and seeking the most eloquent soldiers of both genders on the instructions of the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya.
Out of 24 competitors, 10 finalists were selected and were subsequently trained and guided by renowned professionals, Mrs. Thilini Athukorala, Mr. Thilina Samarasooriya, Mr. Channa Abywicrama, Dr Wathsala Weerasinghe and Prof. Anura Wickramasinghe. The finalists were judged by a five member panel, comprised of Colonel Sumith Devapriya, Mr. Thilina Samarasooriya, Mr. Channa Abywickrama, Dr Wathsala Weerasinghe and Mr. Charles Lazarus.
Staff Sergeant R.P.I Senarath of the 3rd Battalion of Sri Lanka Signal Corps emerged as the Compering Star - 2019 and Private J. Darshika of the 4th Battalion of Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps was awarded the first Runner up. Warrant Officer II D.G.S Wasanthi from the 7th Battalion of Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps secured the second Runner up slot in the competition. Sergeant A.M.G Gunathilaka of the 3rd Battalion of Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Corporal S.T Kumarasinghe of the 7th Battalion of Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps secured the 4th and 5th positions respectively.
Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Commander 55 Division, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North), Commanders of 52 and 51 Divisions, Brigadier General Staff and Brigadier Admin and Quartering Security Forces - Jaffna, Senior Officers and a large gathering of Army personnel witnessed the finals along with a cross-section of those serving troops in the peninsula.
