Jaffna troops took the initiative in organizing a Christmas Carol programme on Friday (Dec 23) evening at Hartley College auditorium in Point Pedro in collaboration with the Parish priest at Vadamaradchchi Catholic church.
Under the guidance of Major General Swarna Bothota, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, and Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 55 Infantry Division, 551 Brigade troops arranged the colourful spectacle, with the close supervision of Colonel Jude Kariyakarawana, Commander, 551 Infantry Brigade.
The GOC, 55 Infantry Division attended the occasion as the chief guest while Vicar General of the Jaffna Diocese, Reverend Father P.J Jebaratnam graced as the guest of honour of the event.
Choirs coloured the event included Reverend Father Michael and Sisters Manakkadu parish choirs, St Anthony's Church choir, Sakkottai youth choir, St Thomas Girls College dancing group, St Thomas Church choir, Methodist Church Dancing Group, Karaveddy Parish choir, and St Mary's Church choir.
Major General Prasanna Gunaratne and Reverend Father PJ Jebaratnam distributed gift boxes containing stationaries to the youngsters, who sang in the choir.
Brigade Commanders of 552 and 553 Infantry Brigades, Staff Officers of the Division, Former Mayor Point Pedro - Mr Josheph Iruthaya Rajah, Chairman Point Pedro Pradeshiya Sabha Mr Charls Ariyaratnam Ariyakumar, Divisional Secretary Point Pedro Mr Alvaipillei Siri, Vadamarachchi Zonal Education Director Mr K Sathyapalan, Assistant Superintendent of Police Point Pedro, Headquarter Inspector of Police Point Pedro, fathers and sisters of the Vadamarchchi area, other religious representatives of the area, parents and Christian community in Point Pedro were present during the event.
