Jaffna Troops Hold Their New Year Festival

With the objective of promoting mutual understanding, values, attitudes and inter-relationships in a multi-cultural, religious and multi-ethnic society, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) adding its share to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year together with the Forward Maintenance Area - North (FMA-N) held a Sinhala Tamil New Year Festival at Palaly Sports Ground in Jaffna on Monday (10).

The day’s itinerary began after lighting the traditional oil lamp by Major General D.B.S.N Bothota RWP RSP USP psc, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna and few other Senior Officers before the proceedings got to a start.

The event was filled with traditional and fun-making features such as tug of war, pillow fighting, grease pole climbing, bun eating, counting of papaya seeds, dotting the elephant’s eye, pot crashing, selection of New Year prince and princess, cadjan-weaving, marathon races, fancy dress parades, obstacle races, slow cycling, raban-playing, etc.

Major General D.B.S.N Bothota RWP RSP USP psc, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna attended as the Chief Guest and gave away gifts and incentives to the winners of those games and competitions.

A large gathering of Officers and Other Ranks representing under command Battalions and Units enthusiastically participated in those events.
