Jaffna Troops Clean up Hindu Kovil Compounds Prior to 'Deepavali'

Giving due priority for religious sentiments and reconciliatory moves, troops serving under the 52 Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna, ahead of the recent 'Deepavali' festival of the Hindus carried out a series of self-help 'Shramadana' projects in more than five Hindu Kovils (temples) in order to clean and rid those compounds of garbage during 22-23 October 2022.

To be in line with the instructions given by Major General Anuruddha Fernando, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division, troops of the 521, 522 and 523 Brigades under the 52 Division showing their goodwill cleaned up Hindu temple compounds at Eludumattuval Amman Kovil, Atchchuveli Ulavikulam Siththivinayagar Kovil, Navatkuli Sri Kaliamman Kovil, Thondamanaru Selva Sandhi Kovil and provided free meal packets to deserving civilians in Kodikamam area on the Deepavali day (24 October).

As directed by respective 521, 522 and 523 Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers, 11 Field Engineer Regiment troops, 11 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops and 15 (V) Gajaba Regiment troops carried out those community-oriented assignments with a view to promoting goodwill and holding 'Deepavali' offerings in a garbage free milieu.

Chieftains at respective temples joined the projects and praised the troops for their timely commitment.
