Jaffna Troops Built Two More Houses Given Away


Two more new houses, built by 511 Brigade troops serving under the Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J), were handed over to two families with children in Achchuveli and Achelu Colony during a brief ceremony, headed by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, SFHQ-J on Saturday (29).

The houses, built by soldiers of 5 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 3 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), are worth Rs 3 lakhs each.

The Army in Jaffna has already built 1778 permanent houses for the homeless in the peninsula and the Jaffna Commander wanted few more houses still under construction be handed over to the civilians before the end of the year.

Recipients, Mr A. Jeganadan, a father of three at  Achchuveli north and Mr Devadas Sudarshan, a father of four at Achelu Colony thanked the Army profusely for its contribution for the construction of those houses for them.

Major General Hathurusinghe in his brief address reminded that the Army is dedicated for the uplift of Jaffna people all the time and should not be viewed as enemies of the public.  

General Officer Commanding 51 Division Brigadier Chandana Gunawardane, Divisional Secretary Kopay Mr. M. Pratheepan, Commander 511 Brigade Colonel Wijendra Gunathilake, Commander 512 Brigade Colonel Ajith Pallawala, Commander 3 VIR Lieutenant Colonel W.B. Panditha, Commander 5 SLLI Lieutenant Colonel G.A.L. Kithsiri and villagers were present on the occasions.
