Jaffna Troops Begin Construction of 6 New Houses for Jaffna People

Jaffna-based troops, including engineers and technicians at the request of the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, have undertaken to construct 6 more new houses for needy people in Karainagar area, Jaffna.

Funds for the construction have been allocated by the same above Ministry on the instructions of Hon D.M Swaminathan, Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs after the Ministry found that Army troops were the best to complete the job in a professional manner as proved in previous instances, such as in Keeramalai ‘Nallinakkapuram’ housing project and other constructions.

As the auspicious minute struck on Friday (20), Hon Minister Swaminathan and Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, together with several Ministry and District Secretariat officials laid foundation stones for construction of those 6 new houses, amid Hindu religious blessings.

Priests (Kurukkal) in the area, officials and several Army personnel were present on the site at the time of the inaugural ceremony. Army troops expect to complete the project in less than three months.
