The Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) contributing its share to the commemoration of ‘Buddha Poornima’ (Vesak) staged several features under the conceptual guidance of Major General D.B.S.N Bothota RWP RSP VSV USP psc, Commander SF-J during 5 - 7 May.
The events, aimed at uplifting the religious harmony, fostering relationships and cooperation between the Tamil community and the troops commenced with a Dhamma Sermon, delivered by Venerable Meegahajandure Siriwimala Nayake Thero at the Headquarters premises.
It followed a jackfruit ‘Dansela’ at T - Junction in Jaffna for people residing in the area. During 5 - 7 May, the 7 Sri Lanka Army Women’s’ Corps organized a Manioc Dansela and the 3 Sri Lanka Signal Corps (3 SLSC) held a Chickpea Dansela. Display of ‘Vesak’ lanterns in front of each camp attracted sight-seers
The distribution of Belimal (Herbal Tea) and Roti (Flatbread) on 7 May, was another initiative, taken by the 3 SLSC. Adding glamour to the event’s importance, the Army Farm, managed by the SFHQ-J also served free Belimal (Herbal Tea) drinks in a separate ‘Dansela’ on the same day.
Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a considerable gathering of civilians participated in the series of events.
