Jaffna-Colombo Bus Fleet Swells Fast

RELAXATION of restrictions on transport and movement of the civilians moving either northward or southwards along A9 road on public and private buses after an absence of near three decades continues to attract thousands of commuters.
  
An estimated 3404 passengers, bound for Jaffna used 60 buses along A 9 highway during Thursday (17th December 2009), a record after the A 9 was secured crushing LTTE terrorism.

20 buses including 4 luxury ones started off from Colombo and reached Jaffna from Colombo. Balance 40 buses commenced their journey from Vavuniya and terminated at Jaffna town.

Similarly, about 2331 passengers reached Vavuniya from Jaffna on 41 buses, the same day (17) along A 9 highway. That fleet included fifteen Colombo bound buses including 4 luxury buses. Twenty-six busloads of passengers got off at Vavuniya after using state buses the same day.

As normalcy has returned, the demand for travel on the A 9 is fast growing and civilians express their gratitude to the Security Forces for all arrangements.

53 more buses went to Jaffna along A 9 road carrying 2542 passengers on 18th December 2009. Out of them 15 SLTB buses and three private buses were from Colombo.

The first bus from Kandy to Jaffna traveling on A 9 road carrying 18 passengers also passed Vavuniya on the same day (18). The rest of the buses were from Vavuniya to Jaffna.
